Lucni Chalet is the oldest, largest and highest located (1410 m a.s.l.) of the Krkonose’s mountain chalets. The first records on this chalet date back to 1623. The various owners of Lucni bouda, the most well-known being the Renner family, used to raise and graze cattle, and harvest hay in the surrounding meadows, and produced mountain herb cheese as a local specialty. Lucni bouda lies in one of the most valuable sites inside the Krkonossky National Park, protected by the Natura 2000 treaty, with the occurrence of endemic plant species and glacial relicts. There are seven protected bird species - the Black stork, Black grouse, Corn crake, Boreal owl, Black Woodpecker, Bluethroat and Red-breasted flycatcher. The chalet has undergone several reconstructions over the centuries, eventually to offer 120 rooms and several bed and breakfasts. During the pre-war mobilisation in October 1938 it burnt down and the final repair was made in 1993 after privatisation.
