The enclave around the Martinovy chalets is among the oldest in the Krkonose. It was founded around 1642 by refugees from the Thirty Years’ War on the southern side of Vysoke kolo Mountain in the upper part of the Martinuv mine. The name comes from Martin Erlebach, who renewed the chalet, thanks to which it became an important centre of the Czech population in 1795. After several reconstructions, the chalet has been preserved on the site of the New Martinova chalet while the other chalets were demolished in 1899. The famous tennis player Martina Navratilova was born here and lived here during her childhood, and her first name was also taken from the chalet’s name. Today the chalet is a mountain hotel with all-year-round operation, a great starting point for mountain hikes. It is located above Spindleruv Mlyn, from where it can be reached via the blue-marked tourist path and later the green-marked path, at an altitude of 1288 m a.s.l.
