Paseky nad Jizerou is a small mountain village with a unique character, characterised mostly by the genuine rural architecture. Timbered ground floor houses of the so-called Vysoke type, many of which have conservation status, prevail. The most valuable of them is an old 18th century school, a large timbered building with a remarkable repose, where classes were given by the teacher Josef Simunek and his assistant Venceslav Metelka, whose main activities fall in the period of the national enlightenment and who both greatly contributed to the cultural life of Paseky nad Jizerou. The school, a valuable example of folk architecture, is now the property of the village and is abandoned, and repairs will be very costly. The village lies in the protected area of the Krkonossky National Park, on the right-hand side of the Jizersky dul valley, on an area of 1279 hectares
